Prince Maiava RIP

We recently noted the 87th birthday of Don Leo Jonathon who we thought would be one of the last living 1950's MLG regulars alongside Dick Beyer.  Just read news that Prince Neff  Maiava who wrestled here in the mid 1950's just passed on at the age of 93. He wrestled here from 1954 to 1957 both in Toronto and on the circuit.

They called him 'Prince Ulu Maiava' and he was accompanied by his manager Coconut Willie who would beat out 'instructions' on his drum and drive the heels wild. Occasionally he would hand the drum to Maiava to use on his opponents if the heels were already cheating. For a time he joined forces with Whipper to form a popular tag team.
